A UNIQUE PARENT-TEENAGER SUMMER RETREAT

THE PAY-OFF

Besides fostering the bond between a teenager and her/ his parent the retreat aims to provide a unique once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn about the most important other generation in one’s life. In a fun-filled, exciting retreat, opportunities will be generated to learn to celebrate inter-generational diversity.

The life skills cultivated during this retreat include

Deep personal insight (emotional as well as rational)

Inter-personal effectiveness, Empathy and Relationship skills
Self-Control and Self-Reliance
Successful and Joyous outlook in life filled with Optimism, Adaptability and Celebration.
Facing adversity and developing resilience during stress

This retreat is an opportunity to discover these vital life-skills which have otherwise (gradually) diminished from the westernized individualistic academic system and the nuclear families. The uniqueness of this program is its design to facilitate learning and peer bonding through fun filled activities.

METHODOLOGY

This experiential retreat is built around exciting outbound experiences/ adventures viz. Camping, Trekking, River-rafting, Rappelling, Rock climbing and simulated exercises. The living in community is aimed at deepening the understanding of Indian roots and the other India which has largely remained hidden in the urban terrain.

The facilitators, keeping the focus on Toltec Wisdom, leverage the Adult Learning principles; the foundations of the design are embedded in the Positive Psychology/ Appreciative Inquiry and in the tenets of emerging neurosciences. Every activity will end with reflection/ teaching moments and evenings filled with insightful films.

THE LOCATION

Rishikesh & Dhanolti; all arrangements including air-tickets

Hyderabad-Delhi-Camps-Delhi-Hyderabad are the part of the package.

TARGET GROUP

Hyderabad based 14-15 year old cohort teenager group with their parent. Only under exceptional circumstances the child without parent will be admitted.

Batch size – not exceeding twenty (10 parents and 10 children)

SCHEDULE

4-9^th April 2011. Departure – Hyd-Delhi morning flight 4^th April;

Arrival Delhi-Hyderabad 9^th April

PARTICIPATION FEE

Rupees 38750/- per participating pair; The fee includes all the costs of Air-fare (i.e. 4 air tickets), intermediate travel, camping, food, fee for all activities. Those making own arrangements for Hyd-Delhi-Hyd may pay Rs.26750/- per participating pair.

Teaching, his other hobby, brings him close to students, at IIM Ahmadabad and VJIM… was closely associated with school development initiatives at JHPS Hyd, Bethany B’lore and Sadhu Vaswani International School… lives in Hyderabad loves chess, travel, swimming and scuba diving..

Shanti experiences and enjoys life at a deep level... a PG degree in French and a certified Organization Change Facilitator… brings a rare understanding to the social development issues and opportunities they generate for individual development... leverages her 16 years of professional experience and parenting skills honed in raising her two student sons pursuing Engineering & the tenth grades… her organization building contributions span administration, training, teaching, strategic coordination… pursues her passion of facilitating change in the nonprofit sector... a behavioral science consultant, she understands the complexities of current age families, groups and large organizations...
